Catching Up

Well, I'm back from my week on vacation. I had a great trip and was able to spend a lot of time with family.

While I was away . . .

Blogroll additions:

The Three Massketeers
minion of the pope
Three-fold cord

Conversion stories:

Tom: My Journey to the the Catholic Faith
Russ: My Personal Conversion Story

And some very good advice stemming from the earlier posts concerning an agnostic spouse courtesy of Jen as "Et Tu?"

Glad you are back. I've been waiting, because I have a question for you and your blog regulars.

If one comes to the decision that protestantism/evangelicalism doesn't work because one is always having to decide what one is to believe based on one's own personal interpretation, and that one should be therefore either Catholic or Orthodox, how does one *decide* whether to be Catholic or Orthodox, when the whole point of leaving protestantism/evangelicalism is to give up the burden of having to *decide* what to believe?

Good question. Hopefully one of the readers here will have some insight and I'll also seek input from other sources.

The schism with the Orthodox Churches is not something that I'm very familiar with. But I guess this provides a good reason to start leaning more about it.

Goodness. I must have stumped everybody.

Anyone interested in a crash course in Orthodoxy should see www.frederica.com.

Irenaeus. Good to hear you are still asking this question.

And it still sounds like your attraction to Orthodoxy is sufficiently strong to keep you from becoming Catholic. That is a pity from my point of view.

My convert heroes didn't consider Orthodoxy, at least not for long-- GK, Oscar Wilde, Edith Stein, Cardinal Lustiger, Thomas Howard, John Henry Newman, Peter Kreeft.

I have a friend who became Orthodox without becoming anti-Catholic, so it can be done, but it is rare. He loves his Church and is a changed man, just ask his wife.

I don't know. Maybe you need to be "led," like the open and closed door thing.

Maybe you should lay a fleece.

What does your wife want to do?

Again, gald to hear you are still searching.
